As a child vacationing in Falmouth, MA (Cape Code) I was in awe as the F-106's from Otis ANG Base launched their fighters into the summer sky. You could hear them coming for miles as they transitioned from supersonic to subsonic flight with a boom, and a screech eventually appearing over the beach in preparation for touchdown. I thought they where so futuristic, and mysterious with their delta shaped wings and arrow pointed nose.
Later as a teenager I joined the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and was blessed with multiple visits to Otis ANG base to see these fighters up close and personal. I even had an opportunity to sit in the cockpits and fly a F-106A flight simulator. This was heaven to me at the time and I fell truly in love with these sleek, sexy interceptors. Now many years later I have an opportunity to recreate this infamous sleek dart as a 1/72 scale model manufactured by Meng Models.
